Insa // Self Reflection is Greater Than Self Projection
This show was very fresh, VERY fresh; and just for-filled my latest instalment of the Insa experience.
The pictures I took for Too Sexy 4 Radio (a link to all the pictures taken on the day can be found here) of his last installation of an ass-tistic (did you see what I did there :p ) visual illusion speak for themselves.
The vibe was something you just had to have experienced in person. Great people, old and new friends. Dope!
Fusing this with me getting my hands on my FIRST Insa print.. Let’s just say I’m a man that don’t ask for much, so its always a dope feeling to fell like I’ve been spoilt with the realness.
They say the first draft of any idea is the hardest and purest. I don’t know who “they” are but I would humbly agree. With only eight of the 32 story boards that will be written for my first book voyage, the first part of this currently hand written journey has just begun.
Man oh MAN has it been hard! Idea’s that stared sky high with “the vision” of perfection, grounded with realistic “this is what you can do” delivery guidelines.
And THESE are the times I’ve been told to savoir before the claws of the corporate sanctions take their grip on talent.
But you see, there is my problem. Over thinking situations. I’m there thinking about what box the industry will mold me in, at my pure raw stage, forgetting that my potential will decide that.
So its only though those moments of clarity I make the time, usually on my way to the paid employment of that day, to write down how I feel this story should feel.
The Boy
The basic idea for the book, modelled around the spoken word set from yester year, follows ‘The Boy’ for a day in his life poetically sharing his emotions and motivations visually, in between the words of my poetry.
Don’t you think I realize what’s going on here, miss? Who do you think I am, huh? Don’t you think I know that if I was some hotshot from out of town that pulled inside here and you guys made a reservation mistake, I’d be the first one to get a room and I’d be upstairs relaxing right now. But I’m not some hotshot from out of town, I’m a small reporter from “Rolling Stone” magazine that’s in town to do an exclusive interview with Michael Jackson that’s gonna be picked up by every major magazine in the country. I was gonna call the article “Michael Jackson Is Sitting On Top of the World,” but now I think I might as well just call it “Michael Jackson Can Sit On Top of the World Just As Long As He Doesn’t Sit in the Beverly Palm Hotel ‘Cause There’s No Ni**ers Allowed in There!
